Make sure that /dev/stdout is writable if needed #66

There are corner cases (like when su - into an account) that /dev/stdout is not writable, rather than get permission denied errors we can instead silently make things silent

@ocaisa How should we move forward with this?

I've just introduced 2021.12 and 2023.04 branches, and would like to get rid of the main branch.

@boegel We should go back in time and merge it before creating the new branches 😉

Seriously though, shouldn't there be a develop branch then? Where are we supposed to target these things so that they persist?
