Move from Mambaforge to miniforge #3597
Comments
Yes, that is correct. A pull request to update the documentation would be very welcome. |
guys, a bit careful with names here: we should move to using "Mambaforge" installers from the "Miniforge" project ie https://github.com/conda-forge/miniforge/releases - as far as I could see, the install instructions in the Tutorial point to the correct location of the Miniforge project's Mambaforge installer, so I don't think we ought to do anything on that front 👍 |
and the Tool's installation instructions are correct too https://docs.esmvaltool.org/en/latest/quickstart/installation.html#install-on-linux |
and straight from the big 🐍 's mouth: https://mamba.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation/mamba-installation.html We recommend that you start with the Miniforge distribution >= Miniforge3-22.3.1-0. If you need an older version of Mamba, please use the Mambaforge distribution. Miniforge comes with the popular conda-forge channel preconfigured, but you can modify the configuration to use any channel you like. After the release of Miniforge 23.3. 1 in August 2023, Miniforge and Mambaforge are essentially identical. We are at 24 something now - so no sweat, no worries, no need for PRs 😁 |
superseded by #3772 - with immediate action to be taken (by me) |
Dear @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam,
While updating the tutorial I noticed that the Mamba installation advice has now changed, recommending the use of Miniforge vs Mambaforge .
If this is what we should do, then the installation documentation should reflect this.
Can you please advice and/or make the change?
Thanks!
