way to purge essentia from the infusion tank #83
Comments
Really old and known bug from all the way back when it first released. You can use a jar underneath the pipe that inserts into the tank to clear it out, it's far from ideal but 🤷 |
If there is a known workaround, then that workaround should be added to the research pages. However, in most of the instances when this happened to me, it was a point of Victus essentia and there was already a Victus jar underneath a pipe that inserted into the tank, so it seems like this is not actually a full workaround. |
As is well established, the thaumonomicon is a lore book, not a quest book. However, the solution is way too jank to be thought to be added as official lore. Honestly the real solution would just be to clear out the essentia buffer at the end of every cycle like the actual matrix does
what you have to do is empty out the jar, then put the label on it, and it'll suck out the remaining point, the reason why this happens is effectively the same reason it also happens to the automated crucible. I.e. poor management of suction handling + poor management of essentia handling leads to gross unintended consequences. For the automated crucible this isn't an issue because, well, it's automated. But the vat matrix was never meant to be automated. So it's more just a case of oversight. |
Really, all GTNH needs to do is copy the well established code behind my intercepter tbh. Pretty much plug and play at that point. |
Seems reasonable. The only downside I foresee is that if the player isn't personally clearing the essentia, the random loss of more essentia than expected might be mistaken for a bug by a player keeping careful count.
I guess not automated, but it sure is convenient to leave jars of Victus and Sano attached all the time, at least when this issue doesn't happen. |

Feature Request
Sometimes the tank for creature infusions bugs out and just has a point of unused essentia stick around inside it forever while nothing in particular is happening or supposed to be happening. In my experience this is a serious problem because you cannot withdraw the creature or do anything else to interact with the tank, the only recourse being to break the tank, and deal with losing a possibly-expensive creature and cleaning up the mess of flux that results.
Ideally the mod would have no bugs and this would never happen, but that is unrealistic. I think there should be some sort of failsafe/workaround when it happens.
I think this could take the form of shift+right-clicking on the tank with a wand, as this is the procedure Thaumcraft already teaches us for emptying a crucible of unwanted essentia. Unlike the crucible procedure, I do not think this should generate flux, since it only happens as a result of the mod messing up and not the player messing up.
Whatever the procedure, it should be added to the Thaumonomicon research pages about the vat (the vat itself, not the subsequent creature infusion research entry, since I could see the stuck-essentia problem happening with other uses for the vat).
