Reported by Gus, tested on dataverse-demo.iq.harvard.edu

"dataset: http://dx.doi.org/10.5072/FK2/144
(unpublished)
[file: PerA_12coFCRAO_F_map.png]"

The metadata model had listed PNG mimetypes to be "Typed" as Figure. This file was not typed on add.

Please note that this has got nothing to do with FITS ingest: Gus really is talking about a regular PNG image file.
He wants all sorts of files, other than FITS, to be assigned "astrotypes" - i.e. values from the controlled vocabulary field "astrotype" from the astro metadata block.
This request is outlined in his astro metadata spreadsheet, but it's just been sitting there and nobody has ever discussed how this would/could be addressed. I've been working on FITS exclusively.

Once and if we allow metadata fields from metadata blocks to be assigned to individual files, assigning this type could be done relatively easily.
Still, it's not clear to me at all how this is going to work - it sounds like the same JPEG and PNG files that we treat as regular images in most studies would somehow need to be treated as special "astronomical images", in astro datasets and dataverses...

So Gustavo, I am giving this ticket to you for review; it needs to be decided if this is something we are addressing for 4.0/at all.
But, once again, this is outside the FITS ingest project.

P.S. this is Gus's astro metadata spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjeLxEN77UZodHVaYjJJYV93a1FudXhhTnpQWVAtWVE#gid=0

at the very top, the section "Type" lists all sorts of non-FITS file types for which this treatment is being requested.

We also need to look into supporting ingest of tabular astrophysics (csv/excel/tsv) data files as suggested by Bob Hanish added sample tabular data files we can test out in this ticket: https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/3494#note-25

Given the time we have left for 4.0, this will need to be reviewed for 4.1 Roadmap.

These days we have file tags. Can we just use those?
