Idea: Add a Dynamic Alert Banner for Outages on Homepage #53
-
I have an idea to add a dynamic alert banner at the top of the home page, that provides information about outages, routing changes, or anomalies. This can help users quickly identify impactful events, enhancing their experience. What are your thoughts on this? |

We already have this functionality for alerts on the global report page. This page provides a detailed report on all the information included in your idea 😄 (it was part of a GSoC project). Additionally, having a banner that pops up every few moments can become annoying over time. Since the banner would only be displayed for 1-2 seconds, users may not have enough time to fully examine it. This is why we have the global report page, where users can go to see detailed information about what’s happening on the Internet globally. Overall, your idea for informing users in real time is interesting. We previously considered implementing a form that would allow users to select the alerts they want to receive and have that information sent to their email. However, we decided to pause this idea for now. I’m not sure if we will revisit it in the near future, as having a mailing list requires us to consider regulations like GDPR regarding personal data handling. Therefore, I suggest reviewing the other GSoC 2025 ideas and not rushing into this one. Thank you. |

Thanks for the clarifying! It’s great to see that my idea aligns with existing functionality on the global report page. I’ll shift focus and review the other GSoC 2025 ideas now. |
