Currently displays as: unspecified month in 1984

Should display as: October, November, or December in 1984 (or something like that)

And range for indexing would be 1984-10-01 to 1984-12-31.

I'm on the fence as to whether the spec supports this or not:

The character 'X' may be used in place of one or more rightmost digits to indicate that the value of that digit is unspecified, for the following cases:

A year with one or two (rightmost) unspecified digits in a year-only expression (year precision)

  • Example 1 ‘201X’
  • Example 2 ‘20XX’

Year specified, month unspecified in a year-month expression (month precision)

  • Example 3 ‘2004-XX’

Year and month specified, day unspecified in a year-month-day expression (day precision)

  • Example 4 ‘1985-04-XX’

Year specified, day and month unspecified in a year-month-day expression (day precision)

  • Example 5 ‘1985-XX-XX’

I would say 'no' based on the phrases "for the following cases" which only indicates month precision as 'XX'.

But you are only in Level 1... Check Level 2, Example 6

Ah! You are right. Mea culpa.

No worries! I've just been down in this stuff for a week. All the examples are straight from the spec, though I may have changed some of the exact dates.
