pdflatex error (font expansion)

Hello,
I am encountering an error that I can't solve. Please help.
I have a LaTeX source that includes some text in Cyrillic characters, and
when I run it through pdflatex for the first time it runs without errors;
however, when I run it for the second time it produces the following
error:
! pdfTeX error (font expansion): auto expansion is only possible with scalable
fonts.
...shipout:D \box_use:N \l_shipout_box
_shipout_drop_firstpage...

Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't received any answers yet. Perhaps there is insufficient information. Upon analyzing my problem, I found that the issue is connected to the .aux file: on the first pdflatex run the .aux file does not exist yet, and the pdflatex run finishes without errors. However, on the second run the .aux file is present, and for some reason it produces an error. The .aux file is as follows
