I've just tried to install pulseaudio. It heavily depends on x11/dbus. This can be faked via Xvfb, but at least on a Raspberry Pi Zero, this maybe would be too much overhead? RPi-Jukebox-RFID currently does not work at all when using a latest "lite" image of Raspbian / Raspberry Pi OS. Neither alsa, nor pulseaudio is installed by default. |

Version 3.x is running on PulseAudio, supporting various sound backends like USB Sound Cards, Hifi Dacs or Bluetooth speakers. |

Raspberry Pi’s December 2020 update switched to PulseAudio (with still underlaying ALSA), see https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/new-raspberry-pi-os-release-december-2020/
I want to start a discussion, if it’s helpful or necessary to switch to PulseAudio. I don’t know much about Linux audio (except that it’s a mess).
Opinions, ideas?
