SteamVR crashes #276835
Comments
It was working for me a week ago or so with an 6800XT on X11. What's the actual error? Check |
It's still working for me on unstable. |
I'm having the same issue with an AMD GPU on unstable. Last time I tried setting up VR years ago I was on Windows though, so it's possible I set something up wrong. |
Please look at the logs and/or share them with us. |
Where would the relevant logs be? |

vrcompositor-linux.txt:
Seems like
I see some other vr logs failing to connect to the vrcompositor pipe / IPC, but don't know why. E.g. vrstartup.txt:

Have a look at |
I didn't see any errors in there, but here are the full contents of vrcompositor.txt:

I take it this is an OG Vive? I don't see anything obviously wrong here. You'll have to dig into the coredump. Btw, you cut off the interesting part after the build IDs; the actual stack traces. I also don't think your issue is related to NixOS. |
Ah, is this the coredump I left out?
Yeah it's an OG Vive. Can't imagine it's a hardware issue since it's just been in the closet since the last time I used it, but not sure what else could be the cause. |
Yes but I can't see anything interesting in it. I don't think this has anything to do with NixOS though, so I'd recommend the SteamVR issue tracker instead. I also can't reproduce this on an Index, so I think this can be closed though feel free to keep using it for troubleshooting. |
Turns out you were quite correct, my issue was not with NixOS but rather between my chair and keyboard. According to the SteamVR for Linux FAQ page SteamVR is incompatible with AMDVLK drivers. Removing AMDVLK from my system seems to have fixed the issue 🤦 |
Describe the bug
I updated to NixOS 23.11 and tried to start SteamVR again. It does work less than before. In 2022 only the Room Setup did not work (#177197), now the whole SteamVR crashes.

@Atemu it still works for you? Which NixOS version and GPU do you have? Maybe it only works with Nvidia?
