I tested today and neither in auto nor in manual position the smooth takeoff works anymore. Not in smooth vel not in smooth.

c0dab47 removed the smooth takeoff starting at a negative velocity. I'm not sure but guessing that it has something to do with #11399.

Update: Since #12001 does not satisfy the expectations for the release there's the revision on #12014.
