Cloud cost optimisation for Sunbird environment running in Azure cloud

Hi Team,

This post is in connection with cost optimisation applied on one of the Sunbird adaptors running with version 4.10.0 in Azure cloud.

Previously, the monthly cost of the environment, operating in a high availability (HA) mode, amounted to approximately Rs. 2,50,000/-. However, following the optimisation of resources, we've successfully reduced the monthly cost to Rs. 81,000/-

Optimisations applied:

• Utilised instance type D4aS_v5, leveraging AMD processor architecture.
• Optimised VM count by consolidating the services.
• Fine-tuned Kubernetes configurations (requests, limits, and replicas) based on usage history and expected traffic.
• Remove unused loadbalancer rules for flink jobs.
• Used HDD managed disk type instead of Premium SSD.

Note: Please note that disk cost is higher due to existing contents and database backups in the env. However, for new installation, the cost of storage is expected to reduce to approximately Rs. 10000/-

This optimized infrastructure configuration can support up to 100 requests per second for consumption workflows.

We are continuing to work on further cost optimisation measures for the environment, and we'll keep you updated on our progress.
