SBOL Industrial

• Tim hasn't been able to focus on SBOL-related stuff of late, and plans to take a step back from SBOL Industrial
• What about bringing SBOL Industrial under SBOL, and having an Editor chair?
• What about legal/financial issues?
• SBOL Industrial is formally an activity under BDAC
  • It does not have its own governance as a formal legal entity
  • Money is maintained in a separate account under BDAC
• SBOL Chair could oversee SBOL Industrial...
• Caution: some SBOL Editors may not have contacts in industry to build relationships
• SBOL Industrial chair could be an elected position...
• Things in SBOL Industrial probably need to get cleaned up and straightened out before handing off to a new chair
• Could things be folded up more into BDAC?
  • Tighter integration with other efforts like IWBDA, IWBMA, etc.
  • BDAC already does fund-raising and money management
• Discussion of current partners, status, etc.
• Have to also think about entities that contribute to both SBOL and BDAC, and what they might do if SBOL folds under BDAC

• Plans for 2024: planning actively underway
• SBOL Website updates - updates, sprucing, etc.
• SBOL Visual portal
• Planning to publish an updated data specification
• Need to figure out the long-term hosting strategy - Azure, other provider, pay for multiple years in advance?
• Setting up sub-committees - to involve more people, broaden community, build pipeline for future editors
  • Also to engage with Past Editors
• Start thinking about SEED, and later IWBDA
