Checklist

  • I am able to reproduce the bug with the latest version.
  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one bug.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Affected version

0.24.0

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Select a video (seems like newer videos are more likely to encounter the bug).
  2. Tap the play button to start playing the video.
  3. The video buffers, then instead of playing, Newpipe shows an error prompt and the thumbnail reappears.

Expected behavior

After the initial buffering, the video should start playing.

Actual behavior

The video fails to play, an error log is produced and the player displays the thumbnail and play button again (repeatedly pressing play yields the same results).

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 12

Affected device model

Samsung Galaxy A52s

Additional information

Thia error is consistent with both my Samsung smart phone and my Huawei M5 10 Tablet.

I have also noticed that force stopping the app and clearing the cache normally fixes the problem. The link to the video in this particular example is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5gKr3h-G4c

However, it seems to be almost random which videos are effected. (Newer videos seem to be more consistent)
