Great work on your dashboard! Here is my feedback:
Mechanics: Overall mechanics look great, team members are communicating through issues, using pull requests, and commit messages are informative. App is deployed properly.
App: The app is well designed, organized in a meaningful way, and most of the visualizations are good choices for the types of data they are showing. Having two separate tabs for the two research questions is great. I really like the bar plot/heat map on Tab 2 now that you’ve made it more clear what is being shown. Here are a few suggestions:
Rather than a few points at the top, I think having a few sentences about the app would make the use of the app more clear. For example, “Using this app, you can explore the relationship between…” etc. The sentences at the top of each of the tabs are better. There are some typos and grammatical errors, such as mixing up singular and plural forms of words. (High priority)
In Tab 1, the range for the heatmap in the world map would be more effective if the darkest colour was the highest value.
The 2 plots at the bottom of Tab 2 should be ordered in ascending order (rather than alphabetical order) like you did for the top plot. You also mention in your reflection that a box plot may be better for this which I agree with.
In Tab 2, it’s not clear what you mean by “Share of Trump Voters” in the y axis, is this the percentage of people in that state that voted Trump?
What you mean by low and high baseline should be made more clear. One way to make it more clear would just be to write “low pre-election hate crime rates” instead of just “low baseline” in the graph titles. More interactivity could be implemented here by having the option to choose between showing high and low baseline crime rate states or both at the same time. (Low priority)
Reflection: Your reflection clearly address strengths and weaknesses of your app, areas for improvement, and the feedback given. Good job!
