ā́navo dr̥śáḥ. Die Pratīkas von <ref target="#KausS">KauśS</ref>
66.14 und VaitS 13.8 lesen ayaṃ sahasram, während die von JB
2.392 und PB 4.9.1 sahasram ānavaḥ haben. Sicher scheint
zunächst, daß die Lesart sahásram korrekt ist, also kein
Kompositionsvorderglied, denn sahásram ein betontes Wort folgt.
Höchstwahrscheinlich ist, daß ā́ hinter sahásram keine
Lokalpartikel mit einer präpositionellen Funktion ist. Der von
BHATTacharya in den Text gesetzte <ref target="#AVP"
>AVP</ref>-Passus sahasram āna r̥ṣiḥ wäre am besten ansprechend,
falls angenommen wird, daß va hinter āna ausgefallen ist. Somit
würde man einen Pāda mit ayáṃ sahásram *ānavá ŕ̥ṣiḥ „dieser
[ist], Tausend Mann, der aus Anu stammende Ŕ̥ṣi“ herstellen.
Dieser Pāda birgt jedoch verschiedene Probleme, nämlich
syntaktische Rolle von sahásram (vgl. <persName ref="#WDWhitney"
>Whitney</persName>s Übersetzung „The one [is] a thousand“),
unterzähliges Metrum und das Wort ānaváḥ (bei dieser Strophe
geht es höchstwahrscheinlich um die Sonne). BHATT a.a.O. schlägt
in seinem Apparatus der <ref target="#AVP"
>AVP</ref>-Parallelstelle vor, ā na r̥ṣiḥ zu ānr̥ce zu
emendieren, was einleuchtend ist, weil seine Emendation dem Pāda
den besten Sinn und ein gutes Metrum ergeben könnte: ayáṃ
sahásram *ānr̥ce „Diese [Sonne] ist tausend[mal] besungen“. Die
Emendation zu *ānr̥ce weicht jedoch von den Paralllelstellen
