Hello everyone,

Would like to suggest a few UX improvements and would be interested to hear what you think of them:

  • I find the functions related to the current article really far from the reading pane itself. If you want to share an article for example, you have to use the menu (or shortcut but that's a different user experience) and it involves quite a lot of mouse motion. Would not it be simpler to add article related features to the article title bar?
  • Most people now find the three panes view (reeder style) more appropriate than the two panes view used by Vienna, what do you think of a transition to the former model?
  • Regarding sharing features, would be nice to use the proposed APIs directly instead of opening a new tab as it happens right now.

Let me know what you think of these changes.

Do you mean three panes or three vertical panes ?

You may have noticed that three panes setup is available by selecting the menu item : View->Layout->Report.
Then, for each feed, you can choose to either have pages of individual articles load automatically or just let Vienna display the RSS.

Anyway, when 3 panes view is selected, sharing an article does not require opening a new tab : you can just select the article title in the upper right pane.

I agree that menu items require quite a lot of mouse travel. But you can personalize your toolbar.

In fact, Vienna is relatively flexible. Personally, I have a strong bias in favor of RSS feeds having full content of articles and I am a big fan of the "Unified" layout. So I am tempted by a solution which would also address issues #62 and #77

@barijaona I have a question. I wanted to make some small tweaks to the sidebar/list of article sources. Most of the tweaks I want to make are visual/typographic. However, I cannot find the requisite information in any of the NIB files. Is all the interface code for that section of Vienna done programmatically?

Yes, it is mostly handled programmatically. The class (FolderView) is a subclass of a standard Cocoa class.
