To reproduce

Edit: Works in Firefox, but not in Chrome.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start dragging a block.
  2. Use two other fingers to scroll the page.
  3. The page doesn't scroll.

This works fine in e.g. Github Projects.

I think this has always been the case right? which means it's not 5.5 specific.

@ellatrix I'm no longer able to replicate this; scrolling while dragging a block is working fine for me in:

WordPress 6.0.1
Gutenberg 13.8.0 active or inactive
No other plugins active

I'm going to go ahead and close this out, but if you are still experiencing the original issue, feel free to add a comment with additional details and I’ll be glad to reopen it. Thanks!

This is still in issue. When you start dragging, you can't scroll with the trackpad.

@ellatrix Thanks for confirming and reopening.

Very possible I'm misunderstanding the issue – I have not yet been able to replicate.

Steps:

  • click the drag handle on a block
  • use two-finger scroll on trackpad
  • release fingers when block is in its new position

Tested with:

  • Firefox 103.0.1
  • macOS 12.2.1

@kathrynwp I tested it in Firefox and it appears to be working there, but it's not working in Chrome.

@ellatrix Thank you very much for retesting and clarifying!

None of the Chromium-based browsers, including Chrome, Brave, Arc, Edge, or any others, allow for scrolling while dragging.

This functionality is working solely with Safari and Firefox.

Considering that a large number of web developers rely on desktops and the widespread use of Chromium-based browsers, this presents a significant UX flaw that should be addressed promptly.

I can no longer reproduce the issue with Chrome when using the scroll wheel. Can anyone confirm the touchpad?

I can sometimes repro, sometimes not. The problem seems to come when the pointer is over the chip, it blocks scrolling. We should apply pointer-events: none.

It might just be my bad scrolling technique but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Chrome version 126.0.6478.127.
