dubious makeRequest function

What does it do? Why does a connect to http://www.umei.cc/p/gaoqing/cn/ ? It will at least make my Windows Firewall open up for that remote URL, and make that site register my IP.

Does not seem to be needed for the plugin. Better to remove it, or document its purpose.
