Hello all,

I love this project, but the kernel is archaic. The kernel was officially discontinued on January 2024. (4.14 LTS)

Codename: octopus
Model: HP G7 EE

Does anyone know if it's possible to update your kernel to a higher LTS version? Like, maybe 5.15 or 6.1?

Thanks.

No, it is not possible. You're stuck with what you got.

I contacted the developer personally by the way. You can ask him if he has any plans on implementing a way to upgrade the kernel version in the future.

Shimboot uses an exploit in an rma shim, the kernel in the rma shim can't be updated otherwise it is invalid, basically it can't be updated due to the nature of the way it executes
