Extending for GeoParquet

Hi, are there any plans for a geographic-variant of the Parquet format, GeoParquet?
Would primarily be the inclusion of the geometry datatype.
PS: the extension would be a move analogous to extending JSON to GeoJSON

Geospatial data is a growing niche in Big Data, and open data initiatives offer GeoParquet as a primary source. See for example https://docs.overturemaps.org/getting-data/
