This resolves #520. It appears to be related to a known issue in Python.
Bringing the chunk size below the problematic 2GB threshold appears to fix the issue, at least as reported in #520. I'm not sure whether it's worth adding a test for this since it would require writing a 2GB+ file on a VM in travis...
