Find out where the easy wins are in the codebase and optimize them.

This should be done after we do first betas.

These benchmarks should also be added into CI so we can see if we're regressing on performance.

We're open to any new benchmarking code that anyone happens to write, so I'm adding the Hacktoberfest tag here.
