Contributing to blueman after fixing device-specific issues

Hello,

I've been using Blueman for years now (thanks!). It does not work well with my Sony headphones, and I figured how to get around it (at least with an unpair/scan/pair/connect macro). What's the proper approach to attempt to let others make uses of that workaround? With a plugin?

Can you describe the actual issue?

If I had to guess, you're using the headphones on other devices then the machine running blueman. This might mean the authentication established when you connected/paired it on blueman is not valid anymore on the headphone when you try to use it on blueman again.

Yes. This can be fixed by invalidating the pair, rescanning and reconnecting to the same address. It works as a shell script, so it could be integrated into a GUI like blueman.

The ideal way is for BlueZ to allow us to reset or ignore the link-key over DBUS. Which afaics they don't and I don't think we should fiddle with BlueZ's ini files to remove it manually.

Which leaves doing it in a Manager Plugin that removes the device, starts discovery and then tries to reconnect as soon as the device shows up on DBUS. Maybe it should be a standard menu item in ManagerDeviceMenu 🤷 .
