Window content disappears on Debian Buster when maximizing or switching virtual desktop #12770

Description

When running Brave on Debian Buster, the Brave window contents disappear when one switches to a different virtual desktop and back to the main desktop (on i3/X11) or when the browser window is maximized (Gnome/X11).

The window contents come back if you open a new window, which forces a resize (i3/X11) or if you restore the window to its previous size (Gnome/X11).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Brave
  2. Move to a second desktop/maximize the window
  3. See empty window inside the window manager borders

Actual result:

Expected result:

Expected result is that the window contents don't disappear when switching desktops (or maximizing it, when on Gnome).

Reproduces how often:

Consistent since around 1 month.

Brave version (brave://version info)

Brave 1.16.76 Chromium: 86.0.4240.198 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision d8a506935fc2273cfbac5e5b629d74917d9119c7-refs/branch-heads/4240@{#1431}

Version/Channel Information:

Other Additional Information:

  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields? N/A
  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Rewards? N/A
  • Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome? No, version 86.0.4240.198-1
    works fine.

Miscellaneous Information:

The issue also doesn't happen in the Chromium version packaged with Debian Buster (83.0.4103.116-1~deb10u3).

Problem seems to have disappeared with version 1.20.103 Chromium: 88.0.4324.152 (Official Build) (64-bit) /
Revision | 6579930fc53b4dc589c042bec9d0a3778326974d-refs/branch-heads/4324@{#2106}, so closing this one.
