Description

It's Brave Browser 129.1.70.126 running on Debian 12.7 (Linux 6.1.0-26-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.112-1 (2024-09-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux). I installed it according to https://brave.com/linux/#release-channel-installation

No window pops up, brave instantly crashes. When run from te command line, I get this on stderr:

[1012/212245.070482:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found
[1012/212245.070636:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found

[1012/212245.076697:ERROR:file_io_posix.cc(145)] open /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq: No such file or directory (2)
/usr/bin/brave-browser: line 39: 46746 Trace/breakpoint trap "$HERE/brave" "$@"

I have this issue since august and tried to reinstall the latest Brave every now and then in combination with deleting all the brave and chromium related cache and profile directories I could find in my $HOME, tried reinstalling, no help.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install brave on Debian 12.7 according to https://brave.com/linux/#release-channel-installation
  2. run brave-browser in the terminal

Actual result

No window pops up, brave instantly crashes. When run from te command line, I get this on stderr:

[1012/212245.070482:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found
[1012/212245.070636:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found

crash_reports.tar.gz

Expected result

Brave actually starts

Reproduces how often

Easily reproduced

Brave version (brave://version info)

I can't access brave://version info as brave crashes immediately. Running brave-browser --version produces: Brave Browser 129.1.70.126

Channel information

  • release (stable)
  • beta
  • nightly

Reproducibility

  • with Brave Shields disabled
  • with Brave Rewards disabled
  • in the latest version of Chrome

Miscellaneous information

I don't know if this counts but I don't use gnome and KDE bloatware, I run qtile. (though all dependencies of brave deb packaged are supposedly installed by apt, I have no package conflicts whatsoever)

Solved. I believe some update in August messed up my XDG_DATA_DIR and Brave stopped working after that and I just switched to Firefox because I couldn't find the issue. Sorry for the noise.
