Does anybody know how to automatically synchronize the website (based on the gh-pages branch) with the README.md on master?

Heu... not sure to understand what you want to do.

You can't do that with the GitHub gh-pages Web interface. I think it should possible with a post-commit hook or something like that.

Do you want the master readme file to also be in the gh-page ?

You could do an iframe to the raw file in the master otherwise
