how is it possible to access the VMs outside of the host? Is there a network bridge mode?

It's currently not possible, but there are issues (#462 #118 #309) deal with roughly the same problem.

Currently you'd have to set up a static route to the instance subnet on your network.

It is possible with the help of ssh port forwarding, see #309.
