I would prefer to use the term quote currency. It is the currency which is used for the quote: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/q/quotecurrency.asp
It makes the weird quote notations easier to understand. Left is base, right is quote:
BTC/USD -> quote / price is applied to quote currency. 30 000 USD for 1 BTC.
I think its also helpful to use quote instead of price to follow that terminology.
This becomes more important for altcoin/altcoin or fiat/fiat.
USD/EUR and EUR/USD are both valid and used. So in those cases there is no dominant currncy which is used as base and both variation are common.
