Try configure the controller that packer generates for virtualbox as this has a reported performance improvement.

also try configure the disk as nonrotational (because its hosted on an SSD) - my belief is that this will reduce wear and tear on my SSD.

also try configure the disc as discard so that it supports trim requests; and shrinking...
