yacman could work really nicely with a mongodb backend. perhaps that could be an option; this would make all yacman-based tools able to switch to a mongodb (or redis perhaps?) instead of a yaml file if desired.

mongodb and redis are schemaless databases, so I'm afraid nothing I worked on can be reused. Only the concept (swapping YAML file for a database to store data) is similar.
