Render note strings with line breaks

Currently notes can contain text that has line breaks (or more insidious) starts with a line break. There are a number of places where this just doesn't do what we'd like.

• Sorting should ignore initial white space, including line breaks. Perhaps even all white space and punctuation.
• Rendering in detail page should insert
  appropriately.
