@miguelmartins17 asked a good question today: "What time is the afternoon standup?"
miguel-asks-what-time-afternoon-standup-is

Two issues with this question:

  1. it was asked via a private message. These kinds of relevant (to everyone) questions are perfect to opened on GitHub where everyone can benefit from the answer.
  2. it was asked Portuguese, which while a beautiful and majestic language is not our work language ...
obviously, it's "OK" to "chat" in instant messenger app using a language you are comfortable with, But always remember: one of your core goals as an Apprentice is to improve your Communication skills. The more you practice your English (even in informal chat/questions) the faster you learn. The faster you learn, the more you earn. 💡

Fun fact: Portuguese is spoken by 283 million people:

The World Population of 7.7 billion people so only 3.675% of the World speaks Portuguese. 💭
But it's the second fastest growing European Language (mostly thanks to Brazil, Angola & MZ)

By contrast 1.75 Billion people speak English at a "useful" level and it is widely considered the language of "Business". Most of the world's software is written in English and most international/remote teams use English to communicate.

Answer!

In the "How to Communicate?" section: https://github.com/dwyl/apprenticeship#q-how-to-communicate
It currently states that there is a morning standup at 09:00 on Zoom:
apprenticeship-afternoon-standup

We have been doing an afternoon standup for the past few months to increase our "face time" as a remote team and it's been working well. Having two daily meetings is a good way to keep everyone in the loop and focused on the collective mission!

Todo

  • Update the "How to Communicate?" section to have two bullet points:
    • Morning: 09:00 - A way to say good morning to the team and describe what your plan is for the day. Include an issue number (and repo if not working on the "App"). Be specific and brief.
      e.g: dwyl/flutter-todo-list-tutorial issue #2
    • Evening: 17:00 - A catch up on how the day went. Again mention the issue number you worked and the progress you made. If you finished working on it, mention the Pull Request you opened.
  • Add a sub-section to 3. Communication about using English for all work related communication so that it's inclusive to everyone.

Note: once this has been updated in the README.md,
we can also close #5 the original "Standups?" issue.
