We have a small entrance area which we will be doing some fun living wall/logo things with (one for later).

My immediate concern is the flooring, as we enter the dirtier season of the year, Winter.
We currently have a standard welcome mat there which is fine but when there is rain, doesn't do enough to dry feet because it's too small.

My preference would be to have a fully carpeted section at the entrance (with a welcome mat ontop, but not relying solely on that).

I will add a photo of the area tomorrow which I'll take in the light.

I'll look for some Portuguese alternatives now, but in essence, this is exactly what I propose we fit there:

There are two issues here:

  1. We might have to do the fitting ourselves somehow as there are very few carpet fitters in Portugal (I'm researching this) and they may be prohibitively expensive with travel for such a small area
  2. It's likely that there will be restrictions on the width of the carpet rolls:
  • My preference would overwhelmingly be to have one long piece starting flush with the door and then another smaller piece in the 'nook' of the window if there has to be a split. The last thing we want is for there to be a join in the direction that people walk in
  • Having said this, I would also much prefer to have the stripes of the carpet running parallel to the door (they clean much better this way) but I suspect this will be mutually exclusive with the point above. I will keep searching.

Measurements are 1120mm x 1910mm, which we would have to cut a small corner out of for the window 'nook'.

All measurements in mm.

So far, 'casa dos tapetes' seems like the most promising is the 'Casa dos Tapetes':
https://www.casadostapetes.pt/

But these ones are not big enough sadly (biggest is 1200 x 1800) because that green would have been cool:

This might be useful, but it annoys be so much there are no prices:

This one could be cut to size as the biggest size is 1350 x 2000 (vinyl border is 250 on each side and could be cut away):

@iteles I think we should order one of the 1200 x 1800 mm from "casa dos tapetes".
The 15cm difference, would be occupied by a pot plant.

I tried to checkout but got this warning:

"O pagamento não está disponível neste momento (não existem métodos de envio ou de pagamento)"

unable-to-checkout

This looks like a good option from IKEA: LYDERSHOLM Rug flatwoven, in/outdoor, medium brown 133x195 cm

Not currently available, but the length is almost perfect and the width would allow us to fold and pin to the step. (we would make it look good...)

@iteles Thoughts?

Just realised that I haven’t updated this … we installed the entrance carpet last weekend.

Before:
FC466B28-D031-437A-8F4D-CE85CEFD2857

The roll was not cut straight on either side …
8AF70352-2799-40E6-A55F-008C67D4B93C

so the first thing I had to do was square it 📐 ⏳

After:
1D9B8608-63F3-48F2-987C-AB2E1D959618

The roll of 2 x 1m of carpet cost us €8 at Leroy Merlin. Even if it’s not perfect, I think it looks a lot better. Let’s see how easy it is to keep clean. 💭⏳

This HAS worked well, but there it now starting to curl up around the edges, letting dust and dirt collect underneath it easily.

I would suggest we buy a couple more lengths of this to have in storage (the exact same one if they still have it) and stick it down with some light double-sided tape so that it's easy to lift if needed but doesn't curl as easily.

@iteles we can use contact adhesive and make it more permanent ... 💭

The reason I didn't want it to be permanent is because I feel like it's much easier to clean and keep really clean when you can take it out... shall we try something less permanent first and then if we find we never need to lift it, go for the more permanent solution?

@iteles my reasoning for seeking feedback to close this issue and subsequently considering a more perm solution is simple: one of my up-coming projects is building a storage unit for the Aquarium: bmhco/shared#36 🐠

so having the entrance hall carpet well-defined is something I’m keen on. 💭
