Initially reported by @csweichel in Gitpod:

I originally started the workspace on master, then created the local branch by clicking on the brach name in the status bar. Once I had my changes committed I ran the “Git Push” command from the command pallette. That created the upstream branch (which does exist), but doesn’t seem to have associated the local branch with the upstream one
