It'd be interesting to see if all of the commits either take away or add to wikipedia as a whole. Essentially this would be a running counter which would incremented based on the difference per commit.

That would be interesting. Were you thinking it would be a daily tally? The information on the size of the edit +/- is definitely available in the stream data being sent to the browser.
Well I think there are a few numbers that could really say a lot about the data: the daily net change, the average daily net change and a graph of net change since "inception". The first is pretty obvious, average net change and the graph of change would be interesting to observe, considering that we really have no idea as to how quickly wikipedia is growing or if it's actually hemorrhaging information. I think that the numbers themselves may warrant a website of their own.
