Kibana version:
7.9.0
Elasticsearch version:
7.9.0

Server OS version:
centos-release-7-6.1810.2.el7.centos.x86_64

Browser version:
Chrome Version 84.0.4147.135 (Officiel version) (64-bit)

Browser OS version:
Windows 10.0.18363 (64-bit)

Describe the bug:
Bar charts - both horizontal and vertical - have problems showing data properly when both 'X-axis' and -Split series' are being used AND Mode is set to 'Normal'. The problem is that all 'split series' bars for a given 'X-axis' bucket are plotted on top of each other (not stacked) instead of next to each. The required space is reserved but not used. 'Stacked' mode works fine. The differences between version 7.8 and 7.9 is displayed below. Same problem is present if X-axis is set to date histogram.

Steps to reproduce:
Upgrade til v.7.9.0 (from v.7.8.0)

Expected behavior:
As v7.8.0

Screenshots (if relevant):

version 7.8 (OK)

version 7.9 (Normal mode not OK)

This is a duplicate of #72424. This bug exists on 7.9 but is going to be solved on the next release. Thanx for reporting this 🙂

When you say "solved on the next release"; Do you mean 7.9.1 ?

@stratoula Thank you! I am very happy to hear that. I'm hoping to get a copy soon myself and will verify on my end as well.

I have also tested 7.9.1 and normal mode is behaving better. There is still one issue that has been around for a while. The split series items are not ordered correctly. See below, I am asking for "Descending" order in the mount point used percentage of disk drives. The first one is correct but the others are not ordered correctly.

Thanx for testing this @swtrux! Do you want to create another issue for that problem? In order to close this as it has to do with another bug.

Yes, I can do that.

Created new issue:
Vertical Bar Chart in "Normal mode" does not order split series correctly when "Descending" is selected #76496
