Bug: Files stops responding when deleting a lot of files for another program #16545
Comments
Thanks for the report, do you already have lots of items in the recycle bin? |
No, the recycle bin was empty before recording |
Thanks |
This is probably because Files updates the ordering and grouping whenever the file list changes. Similar to #4214 but worth tracking separately. |
Is this still an issue in the preview version? https://files.community/download/preview |
Closing for now, but please let us know if you're still able to reproduce this issue. |
Windowsapps.2025.01.06.-.17.15.10.01.mp4
sorry, i forgot this. but it won't reproduce again. |
btw this video uses explorer to send to trash, it works fast. if I use something slower (like python), preview version will lag for a few seconds(maybe 2 or 3) but not stop responding |
Description
When you try to delete many files using other apps (for example, a script or something), Files stops responding.
If you simply deletes files instead of sending to the recycle bin, Files just stopped refreshing, like this:
I created 1000 noise images using a python script, and this flutter app deletes it directly.

However, if you send files to the recycle bin, Files stops responding:
1000 noise images, the recycle bin was empty before.

For comparing Explorer always responds in time.
