Prerequisites

  • Have you reviewed the steps in the following link to see if they address your issue?

  • YES

    • Google Drive, Android File Transfer, Dropbox, Onedrive apps are not installed on desktop computer
    • Preview.app killed in Activity Monitor on Desktop
    • Developer Mode On/Off: no change on phone
    • Allow USB debugging On/Off: no change on phone.
    • Allow access to phone data? Selected "Allow" on every cable connect, then refresh.
    • Installed Open MTP a few months ago, after Android File Transfer stopped working. OpenMTP worked for a while, although it took a few steps to get it to connect by changing mode and hotplug status.
    • Worked a few times using Anker USB C Cable, PowerLine+ USB-C to USB 3.0 cable prior to software updates
    • Swapped data cable to Anker Thunderbolt 4 Cable, USB C to USB C Cable, for iPhone 15Pro/15ProMax, MacBooks, iPad Pro, Hub, Docking (Intel Thunderbolt Certified) - Still not working
    • Subsequent updates to both phone and desktop have since prevented the phone and desktop to connect under any circumstances.

Describe the bug

  • Error 1: Android device is either busy or disconnected (legacy mode)
  • Error 2: An error occurred while setting up the phone (Kalam mode)
  • Phone: Samsung Galaxy X-Cover Pro Android One UI Ver 5.1, Android Ver 13, Build TP1A.220624.014.G715U1UESJEWI2, Knox Ver3.9, Android security patch level October 1, 2023 - not rooted
  • Desktop: Apple Mac Studio (2022) M1 Max, Ventura 13.5.2 (22G91)
    FWIW:
  • I am able to successfully connect an older Samsung Galaxy 4 phone - not rooted (Android ver 5.0.1) to transfer files.
  • I am able to successfully connect subject Samsung Galaxy X-Cover to older Macbook Pro running macOS Big Sur 11.6.8 via Android File Transfer

Besides disabling the disturbing apps on your Mac etc. – If nothing helps you can try to start your phone in recovery mode:

  • switch off your phone
  • connect via USB to your computer (just connecting)
  • press Volume-up + Power button for 8–10 seconds (at least for Samsung phones)
  • in the recovery mode menu select 'wipe cache partition' (not dangerous, will be re-generated) and confirm
  • last not least select 'repair apps'
  • the phone will restart

This helped twice in my case (last time after the update to One UI 6.0)
