TIDRADIO TD-H3 / TD-H8 w/ nicFW serial PTT

The nicFW mod (https://www.nicsure.co.uk/) for the TD-H3/TD-H8 is pretty nice and quite commonly found on these radios. The FW provides remote control operations over a serial port. I believe the python script linked below provides enough details to get this supported quickly.

I don't see that being very useful since it doesn't support APRS natively, or even audio over the bluetooth connection. Would be a lot of work just to support these functions that would probably never be used by most users.

Or am I missing something?
