Problem Statement

The Suspect Commits feature is great in determining the cause of new issues, but the GitHub pull request comments aren't the best way to get notified since many developers don't check GitHub comments.

Code in our org is owned by teams, so it'd be better to notify a specific team about the issue.

It would be great if there was a way to send alerts to a Slack channel.

Thanks for the feedback on Suspect Commits, glad the feature is helping your team fix issues faster!

It sounds like you may want to setup a new Issue Alert. This feature allows you to be notified in slack when a new issue is detected. You can send different alerts to different teams slack channels by filtering when an issue is assigned to a team.

The docs should be able to help guide the initial setup for the Issue alert, but here's a screenshot of most of the detailed configurations:

It's a little cumbersome right now because you need to create a new alert per team, but we're working on a feature to simplify this configuration and share these alerts between projects.

Hey @saponifi3d, I have some alerts configured to notify about new issues, which works well.

In addition to that, I'd like to be able to get alerts when a "Suspect Commit" is found. I think this is a slightly different use case from the existing "new issues" alert functionality.

Okay, cool! I wanted to make sure you at least have that level of alerting setup.

To "filter" a new issues if there's a Suspect Commit, and alert on those sounds like a great idea. Would you expect this to show up as a filter on the alert? Like "issue contains: 'suspect commit'" or something in the "when" block for an alert? I'll add this to our backlog and see when the team can get to implementing it.

We are overhauling our alerting system right now, which will allow for us to have better targeting like a new issue with suspect commits. Stay tuned for more info on that!

I think other solution could work for me. Basically as long as I can pipe suspect commit alerts to a specific slack channel, I'd be set.

@cdignam-segment Were you able to create an alert that only pipes issues with suspect commits to Slack?

@ruslanvolyar I have not. There isn't an available feature at the moment. I have noticed that issues sent to Slack will indicate if there's an associated Suspect Commit, but it's not exactly the same.
