Options for custom Video / Audio provider?

We run our own video and audio hosting platform (educational and need to be very careful for copyright and model release/privacy needs) and would like to be able to add the option for selecting our platform in the video/audio drop down lists (like youtube are etc).

Is there a hook available that I can use to add in a 'service provider' via a plugin? Or will I need to fork and edit the couple of files to manually add our provider in? (or other option?)

I am just seeing this now.

We do not have a hook for the video component, so we would welcome a pull request, but seeing as it is for you own video and audio hosting platform, it would not be available to the masses.

Editing core files would not be the suggested way of doing this, as you would need to manually add those lines of code on every update.

Did you figure out a way to do this in the end?
