thought this had been fixed already, but something seems to have changed recently to make the likelihood of this occurrence to shift higher

essentially, the issue is that all nodes are initially represented by empty squares in-place of the expected icons

work-arounds are to refresh page or move mouse onto canvas, which forces icon load
