Does not seem to work well on a Next.js-based site

I have not dug in to this issue, but even the basic example on https://codesandbox.io/s/simple-list-hhuy3 doesn't work as expected when pasted into a Next.js-based site. Elements you pass by while dragging have visibility:hidden set and are not restored to normal style, and the element you drop actually seems to disappear.
