A contained "image" for development?

I'm trying to contribute to the development of Qiqqa, but I feel overwhelmed at the initial stage due to the checklist of the building environment. The use of multiple developing tools has left me feeling uncertain, as I am unfamiliar with most of them. I would greatly appreciate it if the more experienced developers could provide a contained working "image" for the development environment, such as a virtualbox VM image (I guess docker are not natural for C#?), to help me get started. This way, I can begin by trying small tasks and gradually build my skills towards mastering the entire monster. Could it work?
