When I try to run Jazz Jackrabbit in DOSBox-X, I get the message: "PLEASE RUN SETUP TO CONFIGURE YOUR SOUND CARD", and when I set the sound (I prefer to use Gravis Ultrasound) and start the game again after that (yes, I save the sound setting), I get the exact same message again. I use the same virtual C drive when I run DOSBox SVN Daum, and I do NOT get the same problem there, because there the game works perfectly. What is my problem?

I tried the game downloaded from the following URL, and it runs fine without showing any errors:

https://wowroms.com/en/roms/dos/jazz-jackrabbit/148016.html

Where did you download the game? Perhaps your game was configured for some particular environment before. You can try re-download the game too.

It's working, but I won't use this version. The APOGEE cheat don't working. I prefer the first version that I downloaded from my cloud. There must be another way to run the game, without having to download it again.

Is there any way to reset the game to factory settings or something like that? As I said, I can not reinstall or download the specific version again.

@BridgeHeadland Apparently I do not have your copy of the game to test myself, but you can certainly try remove all its config files (backing up the original ones) and then re-configure it. If you actually post your copy of the game perhaps we can also try to help you in a more direct way…

@BridgeHeadland Inside Elkjøp (2).zip there are two folders named "JAZZHH94" and "JAZZHH95" respectively. Launching JAZZ.EXE directly in each folder will indeed result in the "PLEASE RUN SETUP TO CONFIGURE YOUR SOUND CARD" message. However, if I run the SETUP.EXE program and select for example "Sound Blaster 16", then save and re-run JAZZ.EXE, I will be able to enter and play the game. Hope this helps.

It's worked in SB16. Anyway, I prefer to play JJ only with Gravis Ultrasound, and the version I use is Gravis Ultrasound Extreme, since it's the best. There must then be a way to be able to run the game with GUS, and at the same time you have three versions of the game in the virtual C drive.
If I only knew how to run both Holiday Hare episodes under the same executable file, it would have held with two versions. I use both version 1.0 for my purism, and the latest version of the CD version since I am a big fan of JJ.

Looks like Gravis Ultrasound is not working on Jazz Jackrabbit in DOSBox-X at all. Hope it gets fixed in a future update. :)
By the way, I have modified the EGAfilter.fx file to a .fx file that gives you Apology Mode effect for the whole DOSBox experience, but you do not get slow motion, unfortunately.

I can't play Jazz Jackrabbit with Gravis Ultrasound with version 0.83.16 either.
This is my GUS configuration:

gus = true
gusrate = 44100
gusmemsize = -1
gus master volume = 0.00
gusbase = 240
gusirq = 5
gusdma = 3
gustype = interwave
ultradir = C: \ ULTRASND

I have Gravis Ultrasound Extreme installed on my DOSBox-X 0.83.16, is there anything I need to change?

Just tried GUS and it seems to work ok for JAZZ, JAZZHH94 and JAZZHH95 from the .zip's above.

No variables need to be set or ULTRINIT.EXE run. Just make sure sbtype=none and gus=true are set in your .conf. Run setup and select the Gravis option.

I have tried both gustype=classic and gustype=interwave and both worked, per the Wiki, Interwave is still experimental. Maybe it has got better recently and may have been why it did not work in 2021.
