notebook stops updating when reopened

Sometimes when I reopen a notebook that is still running it just gives back a static output eventhough the icon at the top tells me it is still running and it is still using the gpu.
it is the same problem as this one but I cannot find a sollution:

What version of the notebook package are you using? This should be better from notebook 5.2, though it's not completely fixed. jupyter/notebook#2871

I use notebook version 5.2
