npm plugin system

Description:

rather than putting all the code in the client #47 in a single repo #1294 , why not build a plugin system? I am open to developing one like:

I am very open to this and @lucasnetau and I were actually discussing it the other day. Initially I thought an example repo that could be forked and documentation would be a good start. @lucasnetau has a couple great examples here:
