Sadly, I don't think is it possible to run a VSCode extension directly from the terminal.

Maybe it doesn't help in your case, but don't forget in some cases you're actually using an external tool as formatter for VSCode e.g. using Prettier or ESLint. Such tools already provide a CLI for this purpose (which is what VSCode will use).
