I think the UI design needs to be discussed before this is implemented, so it doesnt 'look' like the commercial tools.
Maybe a separate section. Maybe also make it a game. Unless the username is available on at least half of the social websites , the domain section is not activated.

Most unique name checkers also check against domain names, as this is actually the reason they provide the tool -- they want to sell domain names.
So this feature is a bit controversial, but it is potentially useful.
e.g. http://www.usernique.com/ sort of provides it (hit refresh to get new usernames)
