As stated with debian jessie and the latest mate that's in it. On btrfs mate starts going absolutely nuts.
first off mate-panel starts randomly writing ~30MB/s to my HDD for no reason. This happens when trying to "run a program" aka alt+f2. I cannot kill it. By running killal mate-panel(as root) it just respawns and continues on it's merry way thrashing the disk.
caja also randomly starts eating up cpu cycles no reason during this "fun". And this continues to happen randomly there's no pattern to this crap.
This thing didn't happen on stable, and it shouldn't happen on testing. This new mate-panel is clearly doing something that's nuts.
Only way to fix it, is a force shut down.
